When you remove background Photoshop areas around hair , some fine strands may be removed or there may be rough edges. The Select and Mask workspace can help to refine those tricky areas by fine tuning the edge and refining the hair detail, as Visuals Clipping explains. Another advantage of the layer mask is that you can select parts for removal/reveal without affecting the original image. If there is a desired background color that you are replacing that has fine hair strands, zooming in and comparing the results to the intended replacement background image can help you identify the remaining fine hair strands around the background image.
