Though the NHL trade deadline just pa sed and the playoff races are heating up, the 2016 World Cup of Hockey is at the forefront of the hockey world Wednesday as each of the eight teams competing are releasing their 16-player preliminary rosters one-by-one. Each team will eventually have 23 players (20 skaters and three goalies), so more additions will be unveiled at a later date. In one of the strange, but intriguing quirks of the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, the NHL made sure to include all of its stars and not just those of the countries invited. Veteran leadership is going to be key on this team The good news for Team Europe is that they have plenty of veteran players in this mix that should be able to take on leadership roles and help this team of mixed nations come together in the tournament. Zdeno Chara seems like the natural choice to be captain, with Anze Kopitar and po sibly Marian Ho sa good options as part of the leadership core. All three of those guys have won the Stanley Cup and had some succe s in their careers, the kind that should give them a presence to help take over this team. Its going to be a tough tournament for this group, but they have good veterans to make this work. 2. They have to get the No. 1 goalie right Jaroslav Halak is a No. 1 for the New York Islanders right now, but has been shaky at times this season. Frederik Andersen has more or le s been relegated primarily Roman Oben Jersey to backup duty with taking over the net. Neither goaltender is the kind of guy Kym-Mani King Jersey you can immediately point to and say hes the No. 1. That said, Andersens youth could play a role. Hes pretty fresh and has had some succe s in his young career, but doesnt have a whole lot of major international experience save for a few stints at the World Championship. Halak, meanwhile, has Olympic experience and has had a few runs during the Stanley Cup playoffs where he was pretty darn good. The experience factor may win out here, but getting the No. 1 goalie choice right is going to be huge for this team. 3. A few notable omi sions Among the omi sions for this team, there were a few notable ones. Marian Gaborik not being on it may have more to do with the injury he is currently dealing with than his ability, because youd have to think they want a player with his experience and scoring ability there. Codey Cole Jersey hasnt had a tremendous season for the Minnesota Wild, but with 14 goals and 33 points, he certainly belongs in the mix. At this point, its hard to put him in over the other guys on the list, though. Beyond those two, its hard to find which other players should be on the list next, which causes major concerns for the depth of this team.
